George Diaz has twenty four years of challenging experience in the governmental/public affairs industry representing high profile clients and successfully defending or supporting operational, fiscal, capital, jurisdictional and constitutional issues. George provides the services of a principal and an authorized lobbyist before executive, legislative and administrative bodies with a concentration in providing defensive and affirmative representation at the state legislature. George also provides public advocacy, media relations and crisis management.
George is proud to be a native Phoenician, born and raised in the Valley's west side. After attending Phoenix College and Grand Canyon University, George graduated from Arizona State University West with a Bachelors Degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences in December of 1996. In December of 1999 George completed his Master of Public Administration from Arizona State University.
George's career in government and legislative affairs began at the Arizona House of Representatives as a Majority Committee Intern in January of 1996. In January of 1997 George began working in the Government Relations office of the Maricopa Community College District as a Legislative Assistant. In August of 1999 George joined the Executive Office of the Administrative Office of the Court/Arizona Supreme Court as a Legislative Specialist and was promoted to Legislative Officer nine months later.
In January of 2003 George joined the Arizona Attorney General’s Office as Deputy Director of Government Affairs. In September of 2003 George accepted the position of Senior Public Affairs Representative, with the Pinnacle West Capital Corporation, parent company to Arizona Public Service (APS).
George founded West Washington Strategies in October 2011 and as principal provides federal, state and local government relations, public advocacy, media relations and crisis management services.
George has been recognized for extraordinary legislative accomplishments with the APS Award of Excellence in November 2004 and the Arizona Supreme Court “Can Do” Award in May 2000. Other awards include – APS Chairman’s Award in March 2011, Phoenix College Hall of Fame in November 2010, and the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce 40 Hispanic Leaders Under 40 in October 2007.
George currently serves on the board of the Phoenix Collegiate Academy. Previously George served on the boards of the Arizona State University Alumni Association, March of Dimes Arizona Chapter, the Arizona Foundation for Behavioral Health, and the Arizona Latino Arts and Cultural Center, Los Diablos (ASU Alumni Association Chapter), Chicanos Por La Causa, the Border Trade Alliance, United Methodist Outreach Ministries New Day Homeless Centers, the Girl Scouts Cactus Pine Council, the Arizona-Mexico Commission and the United Blood Services Community Leadership Council.
